The Best Offensive Series Victory Formation in Madden

In Madden NFL, the winning formation, the leading offensive quarterback (QB), kneels immediately after receiving a service from the center, usually at halftime or at the end of the game. The purpose of this is to allow the remaining time (usually only a few seconds) to run out. Although the offense will lose some yards, this method can minimize the chance of losing the ball and prevent the opponent from having the opportunity to counterattack.

When using the winning formation, the QB will not receive too much attention from the defender or even physical contact, especially when the defender is behind by a large margin. The players on both sides continue to play on the court more out of the morality of competitive sports, and no one wants to risk injury for unchangeable results.

To reduce the possibility of dropping the ball as much as possible, QBs usually have two running backs (RB) standing next to them. If a ball is dropped, the RBs need to go forward and get the ball back immediately; at the same time, they also need to protect themselves. The QB on the ground prevents the opposing defensive player from breaking through the defense and hurting the QB. At the same time, there will also be a player behind the QB, who usually stands at a relatively back position and is responsible for grappling the defensive player who picked up the dropped ball. Therefore, this player will generally be a guard in the defensive group or Other defensive players who are good at grappling.

Although the time required to win the formation is concise, the NFL rule is that the game is over until the time is over. Therefore, if the opponent does not pause, the attacking team can use the formation multiple times to run out of time.

FORMATION STRATEGY

In addition to being used when the attacking team is about to win, the winning formation will also be used at the end of halftime, especially if the attacking team feels that their position cannot score. In the same way, if a team wants to drag the game into overtime, it can also use the winning formation towards the end of the second half. Sometimes, when the offensive team is behind by a significant score, they can also choose to use a winning formation to avoid injury.

In some rare cases, to give the opponent some face, the leader will also use the winning formation, although there is still a long time before the end of the game.

This situation once appeared in the 2011 game between Louisiana State University and the University of Mississippi. There were 5 minutes left before the end of the game, and Louisiana State University had a 52-to-3 lead. The then-head coach of Louisiana State University, Les Miles, ordered the offensive quarterback Zack Mettenberger to use four consecutive winning formations just one yard from the Mississippi end line, thus handing off the offense to the opposing team. Miles believes that it will embarrass Mississippi's outgoing head coach Houston Nutt if he gets another touchdown.

FORMATION HISTORY

Before the 1970s, the team that was about to win usually still tried to attack. Although quarterbacks and RBs would take unnecessary risks in doing so, the rugby circle at the time believed that the winning formation lacked sportsmanship and was even cowardly—the act. Then, on November 19, 1978, what happened changed everyone's mind: New York Giants running back Larry Csonka at home and quarterback Joe Pisarcik made a mistake and dropped the ball. At the last moment, the Philadelphia Eagles Herman played away at home. Edwards snatched it at the last moment, so on the screen, in front of the national audience, performed a shocking reversal.

This incident caused an uproar against the New York Giants

Offensive coordinator Bob Gibson does not use a winning formation, and criticism of handing over a victory is even more unceasing.

A week after the end of the game, the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants both deliberately designed formations in response to this situation to protect the quarterback from dropping the ball at the last minute. In addition, within a year, across the United States, both the NFL league and the low-level leagues have accepted what was once considered a "cowardly" winning formation.

After the success and the promotion of the popularization of the victory the formation, there has hardly been a similar situation in the NFL. There is only one exception: on October 31, 2011, Los Angeles Chargers QB Philip Rivers dropped the ball at the last minute, which caused the team to lose the opportunity to play and was overtaken by Kansas City Chiefs.
